Evaluation Question: What have you learnt from your audience feedback - David Manning
Audience feedback proved to be a vital form of development as we progressed through the course.
When we were constructing our product we asked our teacher and other peers in the class for advice and constructive criticism. They told us that we weren't signing in sync with the music at the beginning of the video so we decided to edit this out. It also taught us that when we originally filmed the section when the lead signer day dreams about the lighthouse, at first the drawing of the lighthouse was very unclear, but once we kew this we re-filmed this section to make it more obvious.
Once our coursework was complete we asked 3 individuals, 2 of which were within our target audience, teenagers and young adults to complete a verbal questionnaire via a webcam so we could get a personal audience response to our work. This was really positive as it proved our work was successful, however it was difficult to get an accurate response of what aspect of media construction they found the most successful as not all the people asked understood the media terminology we were asking them about.
We also carried out a written questionnaire and made graphs to show the response. This worked well as we gained a large amount of feedback quickly but we could not ask as detailed questions as the webcam interviews. This feedback taught us that the shot with the lead signer appearing twice was very memorable and our audience liked our physical representation of the Tin Man.
We gained International feedback at the end of our project, when we posted the final product online on YouTube and praise from people around the world. We were pleased all the comments were positive, for example:
- "Top work lads"
- "Really good man !!!! Well done !"
We also received 3 likes, and no dislikes. We were pleased by this as it meant we had fulfilled our task to a high standard.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products by tom ayling and David Manning
Our music video was formed by conforming to codes and conventions of our genre. To make our work our own we also subverted some codes and conventions, we only did this in a very subtle way as genre is a means for communication between us and our audience.
When we were in the planning stages of construction we watched numerous music videos and we decided that to make a successful music video we had to try and stick the codes and conventions like having at least one person lip syncing to music, and the same person or band playing in the background playing either drums or guitar. Also there is normally a love interest as an underlying story line.
We decided to try and break some typical codes and conventions, because often in music videos boys are chasing after or fight over one girl. In our music video we decided to have the boy being chased by 2 girls, his new partner and his supposed ex-girlfriend.
Some music videos begin with a small introduction without there being any music, with our music video we decided to have a very short opening where we have someone sweeping away the name of the song cassius. This has no singing but still has an instrumental going on and then it quickly cuts to are lead singer singing in front of our make shift light show.
We have not ended are our music video with the usual way which is when there is a fade to black, however we did decide to end our music video in a very stereotypical way by having the couple walking into the sun set.
We conformed to the convention of having a small budget to make our coursework and by using quirky ideas to create something interesting from a day to day objects. For example we used tin cans to build a tin man.
We also used a young man who was dressed in an indie way, with skinny jeans and generally dull coloured clothes as our lead signer. We also tired to incorporate some 'youth' by adding some bright colours - this was influenced by Foals themselves.
In conclusion we conformed to the majority of codes and conventions of our genre, although we did subvert a few we knew that if we subverted to many they we could stray away from our genre and confuse our audience.

Iconic music poster - David Manning
Looking into this iconic music poster will help us understand how to create a professional poster.Here is a very iconic poster of the Beatles. This is showing them where they some from as its taken in Liverpool where they all grow up. This is something we need to think about when constructing our poster as boy bands tend to show their roots where they grow up. The poster is also very simplistic which helps the enigma as your interested. Also the poster works well as the audience can relate to them as this is something the audience does everyday, walking across the road. They also show that they are a unit as they are in a line together with the same movement. The text shows the band name and album name, the Beatles use this font throughout all their music poster and videos and have become a iconic font, this is something we need to have in our music video by having the same font throughout the digipak, poster and music video. The long road also helps lead the viewer in because the eye naturally is drawn in.

Feedback 3 on digipack, poster and music video: David Manning
We have asked a series of questions to are main target audience of teenagers aged 13-19 this meant that we would get the direct feedback we want to know to find out if our audience products have for fore filled their target. We asked 50 people of this age range and 37 gave us a replayed questionnaire.
Here are the questions we have asked:
What genre of music videos do you think this music video is?
88% said the correct genre which was indie rock. Other genre thoughts where pop and rock.
This means that the majority think that are genre is correct. This means that we have for filled the genre.
How well do you think the music video fits the intended genre? Perfectly, very well, fine?
40% said perfectly. 40% said very well. 20% said fine.
Their is a even spread between perfectly and very well the intended genre. This is slightly confusing with the previous question. However this is still reflects a positive review which again shows that we have more or less shown a clear intended of our genre.
What do you think the most effective element of the music video is? Lighting, props/mise-en-scene, camerawork/editing?
14% light. 36 props/mise-en-scene. 50% camerawork/editing.
Are main effective element was camerawork. This means that we have shown a clear vision that is what we started off with that creating unique camera and editing to meet the indie genre.
What was the most memorable moment of the music video for you?
The most common response was when we had the same two people in the same shot. This shows are special effect worked well towards the narrative.
Conclusion:
Collectively are response are postive and genrally meet are intentions.
